In the beginning, when the world was waking....


In the olden days, the world was in turmoil. A balance between ancient beasts and the emergence of Mankind. A youthful, temperamental species, vulnerable as much as they were warriors. They were very much like the giants, the similarities were impossible to ignore. The giants took them under their wing, vowing to leave their secretive, hidden land to assist to let them thrive. As the world continued to grow, Mankind split into tribes, and then grew into kingdoms. Treaties were written - and it was promised that the giants would be consulted in any matters to do outside of the kingdoms. War, trade, expansion -- none would happen without the giants word and wisdom.

And it has been such since the world was waking...

It has been many centuries since the original treaties of Mankind and Giants. The world is calmer, ancient beasts either gone or in slumber. The treaties hold strong, and the Giants make appearances occasionally to guide the kingdoms to continued peace. Mozal's grandmothers have all been guardians. Most generations, it is simply a title - someone who when the treaties are enacted, goes to the kingdoms of men. Her grandmother and great grandmother never went. Mozal balances her time remaining trained for travel, battle, and protection -- and a farmer. She and her twin brother enjoy their bachelorhood and maintain their few acres of land, growing and maintaining, sharing with their neighbors. It is a peace that she knows could be shattered...there are rumors that the world of men is in trouble.
